Oh me, oh Meijer!

Meijer and ShopLocal.com have joined forces to give you digital billboard deals that are constantly updated through their API (application programming interface).   The images change automatically, along with the price and text description.

This is a great way to not only target your audience around stores, but also showcase deals you have going on in your store.  Plus the fact that it’s constantly changing, creates a reason for consumers to continue to look at it.

We are always looking at new ways to use this kind of technology. Let us know if you have any big ideas!

Twitter boards

March 21st, 2011 Leave your comment »

By now, I’d like to think most people are at least semi-aware of this crazy little thing called Twitter. But just in case you’re unaware, Twitter is a microblogging service that offers a social networking, enabling its users to send and read messages called tweets. The reason we’ve been hyped up about it at Lamar for a while is because we want to continue the conversations people are having through social media on the road.

For over a year now, our Lamar location in Oklahoma City has been tweeting and retweeting resident’s posts on their digital boards around town.

We don’t encourage you to use your phone while driving, but we want to make our medium as interactive as possible. These messages change so you don’t see the same thing every time you pass by.

Anyone can use this at no extra cost with our digital billboards, so my question is- why wouldn’t you?! Stripes convenience stores gave it a try and created a whole twitter campaign out of it.

Here’s a link to the story http://www.mediapost.com/blogs/raw/?p=5624

This is Madness!

March 18th, 2011 Leave your comment »

That’s right, I’m talking about March Madness, but who isn’t these days? We get the excuse to peek in on some games just to make sure our boards are posting the correct scores.  And by the way, they are! What do you think?!

March Madness fans have something to look at besides the car in front of them while stuck in traffic now.  Lamar Advertising (Nasdaq: LAMR) and Turner Media Group recently launched a digital campaign that transforms 19 of Lamar’s digital billboards into giant scoreboards with live-streaming updates from the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament airing on the CBS, TNT, TruTV and TBS networks.

Those who live in Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Dallas will be privy to NCAA live scores and local channel information as they drive by digital billboards in those markets.  In the hours leading up to the game, the billboards display schedule information for the TV networks showing the games and a countdown before the tournament begins.  At tip off, the digital displays immediately transform into live score boards.  The information rotates from games airing on CBS, TNT, TruTV and TBS.
